W hile a great deal iof attention is paid to Industrial Medicine in all the advanced countries of Europe and in America, this branch of medical science is almost completely neglected in India. In England there are chairs of Industrial Medicine in the medical schools; in Italythere is a hospital exclusively for occupational diseases; Germany has an Institute of Industrial Medicine and Hygiene in almost every manufacturing town, and in America every industrial disease is receiving a thorough statistical and scientific study. In India, though there are jute mills, cotton mills, paper mills, coal mines, iron wiorks, leather factories, chemical factories, paint and varnish works, printing presses and various other trades in which the workmen
